Vox-pop: How UItes Are Coping with the 3-Weeks Compulsory Holiday
Nusiroh Shu'aib
September 11, 2024Last Saturday, the University of Ibadan issued an internal memorandum that the school should be on a 3 week break in reaction to the school increment protest staged by the students of the University. Hence, students are told to vacate the hostels and school premises. It is against this backdrop that Adh-Dhikr Press reached out to Muslim students to know how they are faring during the period.
Question:
1. How have you been coping with this compulsory holiday?
2. How much have you been maximising it to give you the best?
I have been trying my best to cope with it. The holiday was unprepared for, so I had to stay with a friend outside the hall to get my project work and other necessary things done. I have been trying to work on my project and also prepare for the forthcoming examination. However, morale for exam preparation isn't actually there unlike when school is on.

Alhamdulillah, I have been trying; it's not really been productive though. I have tried to force myself to perform some tasks, but for someone like me, being in my comfort zone is a no for me.
I have been trying to read some books (not academic-related) and taking some online courses.

I can't say that I have been enjoying the holiday because I have been sick all throughout the week. But Alhamdulilah I am now better. Despite the sickness. I think have been able to read for at least 3 hrs a day.

It's not really easy, but we are coping well and great cos I just see it as a normal holiday.
Reading, working, that's all I have been doing and also enjoying myself.

Alhamdulillah! It has been good.
I have not really been able to maximise it due to a change of plan.

I'm actually coping well with the holiday because I needed it to suppress the UI academic tension and pressure.
I have been using it to cover some aspects I haven't covered in this semester's courses, and trying to bring my brand alive.

It's not bad. I'm just relaxed for no reason.
Well about this. I do have relapses when I change environments. That could still be the issue for now.

I would say the holiday is something that's not pleasing to hear but we have no choice but to abide by the authority and it's overwhelming to stay on campus when the plan for the future has been disrupted. I can barely cope with this situation, especially the financial aspect. I am used to going to classes to overcome the thought of not paying, but now we are home by ourselves to source for means to pay the fees. I will say the situation has forcefully called for means to pay the money and from my side it has been not been easy because I have been running here and there when I ought to concentrate on my academics to attain distinction.
Although the break has its pros and cons, but I will say at least I can rest for a while and sort out all my assignments. I have enough time to cover up both the assignment and study time.
I have the time to tend to my health and I'm pleased with the holiday but I have no choice but to maximize the opportunity and I'm saddened the situation might affect the school academic calendar.
