Azeezat Maruf
March 08, 2026University of Ibadan freshers resumed on 2nd March 2026 and are currently in their first week on campus. Adh-Dhikr Press sampled the opinions of some of the freshers to find out how the experience has been so far. Their responses:
“My experience has been nothing but awesome, beautiful and, at the same time, impactful. It has introduced an entirely different lifestyle, creating an outlet to many choices. It's good to feel welcomed into a new environment and get to meet amazing people.”
— Mahfouzoh Afolabi, Department of Food Technology
“My experience so far on campus has been a little bit stressful but also great. From the X-ray stress, it's a little difficult to cope, but alhamdulillah everything is moving smoothly.”
— Abdulrasheed Muhammad, Department of Social Work
“It's nice and likewise very stressful, and with this Ramadan it makes it so crazy. One would be under the sun for hours; they won't even consider people who are fasting. I would just say it's the Jaja registration that has been so stressful and tiring for me. Other stuff like Taraweeh, I don't have much to say yet because I haven't started living on campus.”
— Qasim Muhammad, Department of Agriculture and Environmental Engineering
“My first week on campus was good, but I miss my family. I am also happy that I have good roommates because they are nice to me.”
— Suliyat Adebisi, Department of Theatre Arts
“My experience so far is amazing. I have learned new things since the first day. I have been interacting with people and selecting who to make my friends. I also take strolls in the process. I even trekked to the Faculty of Education before I knew where the Central Mosque was located; I was pained. Another thing I've learnt is that at university, you always have to manage. I also lost money on my first day of resumption.”
— Khalid Olayemi, Department of Science and Technology Education
“My first week on campus has been quite exciting and a little overwhelming at the same time. Meeting new people, navigating the campus environment, and adjusting to the academic atmosphere has been an interesting experience. It already feels like the beginning of a new journey filled with learning, growth, and opportunities. I’m looking forward to making the most of my time here.”
— Abdullah Lawal, Department of Economics
“My first week on campus has been quite interesting and memorable. It has been a period of meeting new people, adapting to a new environment, and learning how university life works. Although it feels a bit different from home, I’m grateful for the opportunity and I look forward to gaining knowledge, growing academically, and having a wonderful experience on campus, in sha Allah.”
— Qowiyat Yakub, Department of Zoology
“Well, I just resumed and I am still getting used to the school environment.”
— Fathia Suara, Department of Linguistics and African Languages
