University of Ibadan Central Mosque Introduces Sign Language Interpretation for Friday Sermons

December 10, 2025The University of Ibadan Central Mosque has announced that it will begin providing sign language interpretation during Friday sermons, starting December 12, 2025.
This was disclosed by Idris Olabode Badiru, the Publicity Secretary of the University of Ibadan Muslim Community (UIMC).
According to the UIMC, the initiative is aimed at promoting inclusivity and ensuring that Muslims with hearing impairments fully benefit from the Friday sermon.
“This initiative aims to inclusively cater to our Muslim brothers and sisters with hearing impairment, ensuring they actively participate in Jumu‘at services,” the statement read.
A trained sign language interpreter will be present during the khutbah to translate the sermon for those who require it.
The UIMC encouraged all members of the Muslim community, especially those with hearing impairments, to attend and benefit from the new arrangement.
