The University of Ibadan Students' Union has provided an update on the implementation of the cooking gas policy in undergraduate halls of residence.

In a statement released on Thursday, 28th May, 2026, the Union assured students that significant progress is being made despite delays in the execution of the policy.

According to the statement, the Union acknowledged concerns regarding the timeline for the integration of cooking gas into undergraduate halls of residence, noting that the initial two-week timeline had elapsed.

The Union stated that although the approval process had not yet been concluded, efforts were ongoing to ensure that the policy was implemented safely and sustainably.

It explained that the delay was due to bureaucratic procedures and ongoing negotiations with relevant authorities.

The Union also noted that its silence over the past few days resulted from intensive engagements aimed at finalizing the approval process.

The statement further disclosed that a comprehensive inspection of all undergraduate hostels was conducted on Saturday, 23rd May, 2026.

The exercise, it stated, was carried out to verify facility readiness and reconcile the Union's findings with the report received from the Student Affairs Office.

The Union further revealed that the approval process for the cooking gas policy had reached its final stage.

The statement noted that discussions with relevant authorities were ongoing to secure the release of the final, binding memorandum.

Reaffirming its commitment to the transition, the Students' Union assured students that the operational rollout would commence swiftly once official approval was granted.

The leadership also expressed appreciation to students for their patience and understanding throughout the process, while pledging to sustain efforts towards ensuring the policy was implemented as soon as possible.
