UI Students' Union Secures Approval for Cooking Gas Use

The University of Ibadan Students’ Union (UISU) has secured the final approval of cooking gas use by students in halls of residence, effective from the next academic session.

The approval was disclosed in a notice released by the Union on Sunday, 1st November, 2026, following what it described as several administrative engagements, discussions and commitments.

According to the notice, considerable attention was given to ensuring that the necessary safety measures were put in place before the approval was granted, and safety considerations contributed to the delay in reaching a final decision.

The Union, however, stated that the approval comes with a requirement for students to discontinue the use of cooking stoves in halls of residence, warning that the simultaneous use of cooking stoves and cooking gas could pose significant safety risks.

It therefore urged students to take note of the development and make the necessary preparations ahead of the next academic session.

The Students’ Union also appreciated the University Management for its cooperation throughout the process and commended students for their patience.
