UI Muslim Freshers in the Garden of Idan

Many new Muslim students of the University of Ibadan were lured to attend a purported Orientation Programme organized by one Disciples Christian Network. The theme of the programme was IDAN DOINGS.

It was gathered that different buses went to virtually all the hostels, both school and private-owned to convey the fresh students to the program's venue outside school, opposite Parish Hotel at Samonda Ibadan.

The Manipulation of the Organizers

To all intents and purposes, the organizers of the programme are deliberately manipulative and deceitful cunny. They painted the programme in such a way that the new students would believe that it was not a religious event.

Other than that, it was observed that Muslim students are advertently part of their targets, prey, as the other flyer designed for the programme has the name of a Muslim as first on the list of their highest scoring students. Aside that, tagging the programme as Freshers’ Awakening is equally suspicious. You can only awake someone who is asleep on his duty/belief.

These new students have not had any experience about the University setting, one wonders how they wanted to be awakened on what they do nothing about. Maybe the Organizers want to awake the new students to be more Christians and to become Christians. That’s meant for them to explain and clarify.

Intervention of the MSSN UI

The only registered Muslim Body on UI campus, The Muslim Students’ Society of the University of Ibadan Branch (MSSNUI) got to know about the incident through one of the Imams in a female hostel and the Society swinged into action with immediate alacrity.

The Society thronged to the venue and discovered the place to actually be a church. Other deceptions of the Organizers ‘casted’! The venue written on the flyer was: Women Affairs Hall, Opposite Paris Hotel Behind ICPC, Samonda Ibadan. How the above venue metamorphosed into a church is also left for them to explain. The Organizers have a lot to explain but we don’t think they have any evidence!

*The Remorse of the Fresh Muslim Students*

After the exchange of words between the MSSNUI and the Organizers, the Organizers made an announcement that all Muslims who were not comfortable to be in the programme should go out. This led to five of the new the Muslim students to come out. The MSSN leaders were not so comfortable with the cunny announcement and ordered the Organizers to tell all the Muslims to come out that the MSSN executives were outside waiting for them. With that, another 15 Muslim students came out, making twenty in total. Allah Akbar!

Some of the Freshers really regretted being lured into the garden of Idan Doings. One of them, a female, recounted, heavy-hearted;”When I got there and saw the venue was a church. I started blaming myself but I couldn’t come out.”Another male attendee cried out;”I was confused when I got there because I didn’t see their flyer; it was a friend of mine that said it was a program for freshers. He said they wanted to teach us how to graduate with first class.”
