April 02, 2026"You are in good hands with your mentors in the Muslim community, as well as with your leaders and executives."
This was the assurance given by Professor Demola Lewis, Dean of Students, University of Ibadan, on Sunday, 29th March, 2026, during the formal opening ceremony of the 2026 Orientation Week organised by the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria, University of Ibadan (MSSNUI).
Prof. Lewis commended the Muslim community, especially the Muslim students, for their consistent academic excellence over the years, attributing their success to discipline and dedication.
“It is not surprising that when results come out, you see a good number of Muslim students topping their classes because of your consistency,” he said, urging them to sustain this standard.
He further revealed that measures are already being taken to ensure that imams of the various mosques are not restricted from praying for Muslim students at their halls of residence.
“We want to encourage academic excellence, and we also want to encourage that people grow up to be men and women of faith who practise their religion and are a pride to their religion and to God,” he added.
Addressing the importance of health, the Dean advised freshers to take their medical registrations seriously, seek medical care when needed, and adhere to instructions given by healthcare practitioners.
“It is of utmost importance that you do all your medical registrations,” he emphasised.
Prof. Lewis also delivered the congratulatory message of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kayode Adebowale, to the fresh students and wished them a fantastic time on the University of Ibadan campus.
