Practical Tips to Maximise Your Ramadan Spirit on Campus
Faidah Abdulkareem
March 09, 2026Ramadan is a time of increased devotion, reflection, and spiritual growth. However, for students on campus, it can also be a period of juggling several responsibilities. With lectures for the 2025/2026 academic session at the University of Ibadan having commenced, many students need to balance fasting, studies, school activities, prayers, and other acts of Ibadah.
As Ramadan continues alongside academic activities, being intentional about how time and energy are managed becomes even more important. Here are five practical tips to help students make the most of this blessed month while staying productive.
First, plan your day wisely. Set your prayers, schoolwork, Ibadah, and rest around your fasting schedule. Plan your mornings around Suhoor and Fajr, and try to maximize your rewards in the morning. If you have lectures or academic tasks, prepare for them ahead and prioritize the most demanding activities during your strongest energy periods. Also, schedule short rest periods to avoid burnout. A written daily plan or simple timetable can help you stay organised and spiritually focused.
Second, eat healthy during Suhoor and Iftar. Avoid foods that can make you sluggish, and avoid eating too much, especially during Suhoor. Focus more on healthy meals like vegetables, fruits, and proteins to sustain your energy, and drink plenty of water to stay hydrated throughout the day.
Third, stay consistent with prayers and Ibadah. Make a conscious effort to perform your Salah on time and keep your mind and mouth engaged in dhikr throughout the day. Setting reminders and using Ibadah reminder apps can help you stay consistent and not lose track.
Next, use short breaks wisely. Even a few minutes between classes can be used for dhikr, reflection, or reading the Qur’an. Small moments matter.
Finally, set personal goals for spiritual growth. Take time to reflect on what you want to achieve this Ramadan. It could be memorizing a verse of the Qur’an, increasing your daily remembrance, or performing an act of kindness. Every good deed and every moment counts in Ramadan.
Ramadan on campus can be quite taxing, but with proper planning, focus and good intention, you can make it meaningful and rewarding. Ensure that your growth does not derail during the month, and instead use this blessed period to move closer to Allah, strengthen your studies, engage in acts of kindness, and support others.
