Philosophy, Science Can't Disprove Divine Truth — Prof. Oladosu
Teslim Oluwatobiloba
June 26, 2025Professor Afis Oladosu of the Department of Arabic and Islamic Studies, University of Ibadan, has called on students to seek companionship, describing it as a universal truth in Islam.
The professor made this appeal during the Da’wah Enlightenment held on Tuesday, 24th June, 2025, at the University of Ibadan Central Mosque.
Speaking on the topic, "Universal Truth," he examined the concept from three major perspectives: science, philosophy, and religion.
From the scientific angle, he noted that scientists thrive on inquiry and observation, often offering various interpretations rather than absolute truths. “Scientists thrive on enquires and give different perspectives based on their observations, but not the ultimate truth,” he said.
Addressing the philosophical perspective, he stated that philosophers operate within a framework of uncertainty and skepticism, frequently challenging established ideas.
He said religion, however, presents universal truth differently. According to him, in Islam, universal truth begins with the creation of the world, with the Qur'an as the ultimate truth revealed by Allah.
He added that companionship is not only a social need but also a part of this divine reality, urging students to reflect on its importance.
Professor Afis Oladosu underscored that universal truth is an incontrovertible reality, one that neither science nor philosophy can disprove.
