March 30, 2026The Secretary to the Oyo State Government, Professor Musibau Adetunji Babatunde, has advised fresh students of the University of Ibadan to clearly define their path and pursue excellence throughout their academic journey.
Professor Babatunde gave the charge on Sunday, 29th March, 2026, while chairing the formal opening ceremony of the 2026 Orientation Week organised by the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria, University of Ibadan (MSSNUI).
Emphasising the importance of focus and high standards, the SSG said: “I want you to define your path. Because if you don’t define your path, you’ll just be floating.
"Whatever your target is, you must work towards it. For me, I will not accept anything less than a first class from you.”
He urged the freshers to concentrate on their studies and avoid all forms of distractions, charging them to display excellence at all times.
Professor Babatunde warned the students against engaging in negative activities such as secret societies, examination malpractice, cybercrimes, and substance abuse.
He also noted the impressive trend of female students dominating top academic positions and graduating with first-class honours.
He encouraged them to sustain this momentum while calling on male students to rise to the challenge and work harder.
On personal safety, the SSG advised the freshers to prioritise security by informing colleagues of their whereabouts.
“Don’t keep late nights. If you’re going anywhere, let your colleagues know where you’re going,” he said.
