June 30, 2025“It is very problematic in the West to display your Islamic values,” remarked Mr. Umar Olansile Ajetunmobi at the get-together organised by the Association of Muslim Student Communicators (AMSCOM).
The event, themed “The Pulse”, was held at the New Complex, Faculty of Arts, University of Ibadan, on Friday, 27th June, 2025.
The event brought together Muslim students and alumni from the Department of Communication and Language Arts.
Dr. Kamoru Aremu Salaudeen delivered the first presentation titled “More Than a Greeting: Strengthening Muslim Brotherhood on Campus for Collective Growth.”
He emphasized the spiritual and communal strength embedded in the Islamic greeting, saying that it has spiritual reward and serves as protection.
In the second session, Dr. Ridwan Kolawole spoke on “Balancing the Books and the Book of Life: Striving for Academic Excellence as a Muslim Student.”
He charged students to be deliberate in managing their time and warned against examination malpractice.
The final speaker, Mr. Umar Olansile Ajetunmobi, addressed the topic “From Classroom to Global Stage: Building Career and Securing Scholarship as a Muslim Communicator.”
He discussed how Muslim students can carve a niche for themselves in media, public speaking, and journalism while holding firmly to their values.
Mr. Ajetunmobi encouraged students to leverage digital platforms like LinkedIn to build a professional presence.
He further stressed the importance of securing fully funded scholarships and urged students not to accept offers without clear funding, as that could derail their goals.
The Head of the Department of Communication and Language Arts, Dr. Bisi Olawuyi, who also graced the event, described it as a commendable initiative that should be sustained and expanded.
Dr. Olawuyi was presented with an award by the association in recognition of his leadership and support.
