MSSN Oyo Cancels 3rd Term COSSMUS Over Security Concerns
Ayub Sanusi
June 06, 2026The Muslim Students' Society of Nigeria (MSSN), Oyo State Area Unit, has cancelled the 3rd Term Conference of Secondary School Muslim Students (COSSMUS), citing growing security concerns, disruptions in the academic calendar, and the imperative to safeguard the lives of participating students.
The cancellation was announced through a press release issued by the Directorate of Secondary School Coordination (DSSC) and endorsed by the leadership of the Oyo State Area Unit.
The decision followed a careful assessment of prevailing circumstances, including the current state of insecurity in various communities, widespread fear arising from recent unfortunate incidents affecting schools and communities, inconsistencies in school calendars, and general uncertainty within the educational sector.
MSSN noted that the safety and well-being of students remained its foremost consideration, and that the decision aligns with the Islamic principle of preserving life.
The statement expressed concern over recent reports of abductions involving school children, teachers, and school administrators across different parts of the country.
The organisation prayed to Allah (SWT) to grant safety and protection to all students, teachers, and educational personnel and to facilitate the swift and unhindered return of all those currently in captivity.
It further called on members to continue praying for peace and security across the country.
MSSN also extended its sympathies to families and communities affected by incidents of insecurity across the nation.
While acknowledging the importance of the conference, the organisation admitted that the cancellation may disappoint students and stakeholders who had eagerly anticipated the programme.
It, however, promised to remain committed to organising similar programmes when conditions become more favourable, and reaffirmed its dedication to nurturing morally upright, academically sound, and spiritually conscious Muslim students.
The society appreciated the understanding and continued support of students, parents, school coordinators, and other stakeholders, while expressing hope that improved security and stability would create better opportunities for future engagements aimed at promoting the academic, moral, and spiritual development of Muslim students across Oyo State.
