Maintaining a Balance between Academics and Health
HVC
May 13, 2025Maintaining a balance between academics and health is essential for every student. The Hospital Visitation Committee (HVC) of MSSNUI is here to help, and we've got some valuable tips to share.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), health is "a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity."
Therefore, taking care of your health is essential, as the saying goes, "Na who well, go read."
Prioritizing healthcare is vital for achieving excellence and here are some tips on maintaining good health:
1. Regular Exercise
Engage in physical activities like walking, jogging, or sports to maintain physical health.
2. Healthy Eating
Focus on consuming nutritious foods, including fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins and not noodles, biscuits and junks. Avoid skipping breakfast and maintain a balanced diet.
3. Sleep
Aim for 7-9 hours of sleep each night to help your body and mind recharge.
4. Mental Health
Prioritize self-care, practice stress-reducing techniques, and seek help when needed.
Maintaining Academic Excellence
Here are some strategies to help you stay on top of your studies:
1. Create a Schedule
Plan out your day, week, and month, setting specific times for studying, classes, and assignments.
2. Prioritize Tasks
Focus on the most important tasks and break them down into manageable chunks.
3. Use Time-Management Tools
Utilize calendars, planners, or apps to stay organized and on track.
4. Seek Help When Needed
Don't hesitate to ask teachers, classmates, or tutors for assistance when struggling with coursework as this will foster your learning and result in invaluable success.
Achieving Balance between Academics and Health
1. Set Realistic Goals
Be authentic about what you can accomplish in a day or week, and set achievable goals.
2. Learn to Say No
Be mindful of your workload and avoid taking on too much; learn to say no when necessary.
3. Take Breaks
Regularly take short breaks to recharge and avoid burnout.
4. Stay Organized
Use tools like to-do lists, calendars, or planners to stay on top of your responsibilities.
Additional Tips
1. Stay Hydrated
Drink plenty of water throughout the day to maintain physical and mental health.
2. Limit Screen Time
Establish screen-free times and days to reduce distractions and promote relaxation.
3. Engage in Activities You Enjoy
Make time for hobbies, passions, or spending time with loved ones to maintain mental well-being.
4. Seek Support
Surround yourself with people who support and encourage you to maintain a healthy balance between health and academics.
By following these tips, you'll be well on your way to achieving a balance between academics and health. Remember, taking care of your health is essential for success!
