From the Minbar: Scholar Calls for Brotherhood Among Muslims
Abdulhamid Balogun
August 30, 2026Dr. Kazeem A. Omofoyewa has called on Muslims to strengthen the bonds of brotherhood and shun factionalism, stressing the importance of unity among Muslims.
The scholar made the call while delivering the Jumu'ah sermon at the University of Ibadan Central Mosque, where he spoke against divisions among Muslims and urged them to identify primarily as Muslims rather than through factions.
Speaking on the importance of unity, the scholar referenced the Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) establishment of brotherhood among his followers after the Hijrah to Madinah. He explained that the Prophet established the mosque as a gathering place for Muslims and fostered bonds of brotherhood among them.
Emphasising the Islamic obligation to uphold one another, he cited a hadith of the Prophet (PBUH) which states that a Muslim is a brother to another Muslim and should neither oppress nor forsake him. He also cited the hadith that states that none truly believes until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself.
The scholar further urged Muslims to avoid creating enmity among themselves, noting that quarrels should not be allowed to persist beyond three days.
He concluded by recalling the Prophet’s (PBUH) farewell message, urging Muslims to remain united and maintain the bond of brotherhood.
