The Federal Government, under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, has declared Tuesday, 25 August, 2026, a public holiday in observance of this year's Eid ul-Mawlid.

This was announced by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government, in a statement signed by the ministry's Permanent Secretary, Dr Magdalene Ajani, on Friday, 21 August, 2026.

Tunji-Ojo conveyed the Federal Government's greetings to Muslims in Nigeria and around the world on the occasion, encouraging Nigerians to reflect on the values of compassion, humility and service associated with the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).

He described the occasion as one that should promote compassion, humility and service to others, qualities he said the nation needs "now more than ever."

The minister encouraged Nigerians to use the period for collective prayer and reflection, stressing that national unity and peace remain a shared responsibility.

He further urged Muslim faithful to mark the occasion with restraint and mutual respect, while reaffirming the Federal Government's commitment to protecting lives and property and ensuring the sustenance of peace across the country.
