The Council of Faculty Presidents (COFP), University of Ibadan, has issued a public warning to students following reports of an individual allegedly impersonating a staff member of the Exams and Records Unit and soliciting money from students through phone calls and text messages.

According to the council, the warning became necessary after students reported receiving suspicious communications.

The suspect was identified as "Dr. Bankole," who claimed affiliation with the Exams and Records Unit and allegedly requested various sums of money from students under the guise of official university business.

The council noted that the individual had been contacting students through a specific phone number shared in the official notice, while cautioning that he may operate through multiple lines.

Students were advised to disregard any such messages or calls and to verify information purportedly originating from the Exams and Records Unit through official university channels.

COFP further reminded students that legitimate university transactions do not involve personal bank accounts or unauthorised payment methods, and that any such request should be treated as suspicious and reported to the appropriate authorities.

Students were also warned against disclosing personal information to unverified individuals claiming to represent university offices.

Restating its commitment to the student body, the council pledged to continue safeguarding students against fraudulent activities and urged the university community to remain vigilant.
