The Association of Muslim Communicators (AMSCOM) has emphasised the importance of building meaningful relationships and developing relevant skills among students.

This call was made at its picnic held on Friday, 30th October, 2026, at NFC 02B, Faculty of Arts, University of Ibadan.

The event, themed "Bond Beyond Words," featured discussions on networking, human relationships, unity, cooperation and skill acquisition, with Engr. Sulaiman Awoseeni delivering the keynote address.

Speaking at the event, Engr. Sulaiman Owoseni, who delivered the keynote address, drew references from Qur'an 4:1, Qur'an 49:13 and Qur'an 5:2 to underscore the importance of human relationships, unity and cooperation.

Using human fingers to illustrate his point, he explained that differences among individuals should promote complementarity rather than discrimination.

Engr. Owoseni further stressed that relationships should not be determined by social or academic status, adding that bonding and networking are as important as daily Salawat.

Dr Mutiu Iyanda also highlighted the relationship between networking and skill acquisition, noting that although acquiring relevant skills is important, the networks individuals build can create opportunities to showcase and utilise those skills.

Similarly, Dr Kamoru Salaudeen encouraged students to commit to learning at least one skill every semester or academic session, stressing that practical abilities would complement the academic qualifications they obtain.

In his remarks, the Head of the Department of Communication and Language Arts, Prof. Ojebuyi, emphasised the importance of building meaningful networks.

He advised students to be strategic when borrowing courses, urging them to prioritise courses relevant to their fields of study rather than selecting them solely based on the possibility of earning distinctions.

Also speaking at the event, Dr Ridwan Kolawole advised students to maintain politeness when communicating with lecturers and other individuals in positions of authority.

He observed that some students use inappropriate expressions when addressing such individuals and urged them to pay greater attention to their choice of words and manner of communication.

The picnic concluded with games, networking opportunities and a group photography session.
