Members of Adh-Dhikr Press Organisation, the press arm of the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN), University of Ibadan, have embarked on a trip to the African Newspapers of Nigeria, publisher of Tribune newspaper.

The trip, which took place on Thursday, March 6, 2025, also included members of Al-Faedah Press, the press arm of MSSN Akinyele Area Council.

Founded in 1949 by Chief Obafemi Awolowo, former Premier of the Western Region, Tribune is the oldest Nigerian newspaper still in circulation. The trip to its headquarters on Imalefalafia Street, Oke-Ado, Ibadan, provided the press members with an insightful experience into the workings of one of Nigeria’s most respected media institutions.

During the trip, members learnt about the newspaper’s history and the vision behind its creation. They also explored Tribune’s extensive library, regarded as the largest and most detailed newspaper archive in Nigeria. In addition, they toured the production room and the newsroom.

A major highlight of the trip was an interactive session with Mr. Sam Nwoko, Deputy Editor of Saturday Tribune. The seasoned journalist shared valuable insights on modern journalism, ethical reporting, and the evolving media landscape.

The trip proved to be an eye-opening experience for the press members, broadening their knowledge, strengthening their connections, and deepening their appreciation of the legacy of one of Nigeria’s most prestigious newspapers.
